Optimizing Company Operations to Serve Customers Better

Optimizing Company Operations to Serve Customers Better

Innovation and better internal processes are the foundation of faster, more efficient service for your customers. Optimizing how a company works does more than improve customer service. It can cut costs significantly, save hours of work, improve coordination between employees, and open the door to new services that add value to the business. On the other hand, changes like these can be expensive and complicated. The rollout and adjustment period can drag on, people may struggle to get used to the new process, and in the end the change may not deliver the results you wanted. If a change doesn’t add value to the company, you don’t need it! So before you decide to optimize or change something, think hard about whether it will actually pay off.

In the summer of 2014, my company Venera Cosmetics replaced its warehouse software so that all our work processes would be better integrated. As a result, we improved our warehouse and logistics operations and were able to add new features, mainly to our online store. If a change doesn’t add value to the company, you don’t need it!Our old software had been custom-built for us a full ten years earlier, but our business had shifted focus, and the market now offered faster, easier tools, so a change was overdue. The deciding factor, though, was that the old warehouse program couldn’t be integrated (connected) with our online store, fragrances.bg. That meant stock levels were updated by hand, which led to a steady stream of errors. A smaller online retailer might live with that, but when you carry more than 3,000 products and want to offer next-business-day delivery, you have to get serious about improvements.

The process wasn’t easy, smooth or fast. It took us about three months to implement the new warehouse program and get back to business as usual. It wasn’t cheap either: on top of buying and implementing the software, we also had to buy new hardware. Still, I’d say the change was extremely important. It made the company’s processes faster and simpler, and it saves us time and effort on administrative work in the online store. That frees us to look for even more ways to boost our productivity and add value to the services we offer.

If you’d like to know more about the improved service the new warehouse program let us offer our customers, you can read the article I published on our official company website. Posts like this do a lot for a company’s image, because they let customers know what has changed and what better service they can expect from now on.
